This is the kind of thing a lender's site exists to catch: a number that is true everywhere except at the source.

What we actually checked

We fetched the Missouri DHSS Student Loan Repayment Program page and ran a simple test: extract every string matching a dollar amount.

The result was zero. Not a low figure, not an outdated figure, none at all.

What the page says where the money should be

The section is headed "Maximum Loan Repayment Amounts Awarded per Year". Underneath it, in place of amounts:

"Eligible professions to be determined prior to the upcoming application cycle"

The same sentence also appears in the eligibility list. And separately, on the application section:

"Revisions to regulations are being made for the upcoming application cycle."

★ Read together, those say the programme is mid-revision: not just the amount, but who is allowed to apply.

Where the $50,000 comes from

Secondary coverage, aggregators, scholarship sites and association summaries, reports SLRP as paying $50,000 for primary care physicians, psychiatrists and dentists, with an additional $10,000 for qualifying services such as substance-use and behavioural health or telehealth.

That may well have been correct for a prior cycle. It is not what the programme publishes today, and we cannot source it to the programme's own page. So we are not going to repeat it as fact.

★ This is the house rule, and it is the whole reason to read a lender's page rather than an aggregator's: cite or omit. A figure you cannot trace to its source is not a figure, however many sites repeat it.

What the page does still publish

The mechanics are intact even while the money is open:

TermCurrent
Service obligationtwo years per award
Full-time40 hours per week, direct patient care
Wherein a HPSA in Missouri, primary health care
ResidencyUS citizen and Missouri resident
Conflictineligible if you hold a current NHSC obligation
★ Excluded★ hospitalists, emergency medicine, inpatient facilities, prisons
Regulation19 CSR 10-3

The exclusions in detail.

★ What to do about it

  1. Do not budget around $50,000. Until DHSS publishes the cycle's figures, there is no amount to rely on.
  2. Look at HPLRP in parallel. It is the same office, same regulation, and it does publish current amounts, up to $65,000 at doctorate level. The HPLRP table.
  3. Check whether you are excluded before investing time in either.
  4. Do not let an expected award set your house budget. Buy what the salary supports. How debt is treated.

★ One more thing we are not publishing

Secondary sources give an SLRP application window of 1 September to 1 November 2026. The live page does not state that alongside the revised-regulations notice, so we are not presenting it as fact either. Check with DHSS directly.

★ We are the lender, not the programme. DHSS administers SLRP and HPLRP, sets the amounts and decides eligibility.

Frequently asked questions

Does Missouri publish an SLRP award amount?

Not currently. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services' Student Loan Repayment Program page carries no dollar figure at all. Where maximum loan repayment amounts would appear, it states that eligible professions are to be determined prior to the upcoming application cycle, and the page separately states that revisions to regulations are being made.

Why do other websites say Missouri pays $50,000?

Secondary coverage reports $50,000 for primary care physicians, psychiatrists and dentists plus $10,000 for qualifying services, which may have been correct for a prior cycle. It cannot be sourced to the programme's own current page, which publishes no amount, so it should not be relied on for planning.

What is still published about the Missouri SLRP?

The mechanics. The service obligation is two years per award, full-time employment is forty hours per week of direct patient care in a Health Professional Shortage Area providing primary health care, applicants must be US citizens and Missouri residents, anyone with a current National Health Service Corps obligation is ineligible, and the programme is governed by 19 CSR 10-3.

Should I plan my finances around a Missouri SLRP award?

No. With both the award amount and the eligible professions currently undetermined, there is no figure to budget against. The Health Professional Loan Repayment Program, run by the same office under the same regulation, does publish current amounts up to $65,000 at doctorate level and is worth examining in parallel.
